Literature today

Literature is a term used to describe spoken or written material. Generally speaking literature exists to describe creative writing, poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction etc. It represents culture and traditions and is more important than any cultural and historical artifact. We get acquainted with new books, enjoy stories and novels. Literature is important to us because it talks with us and affects us.
What is literature for the modern person? Do people still read books? The answers are evident. Literature will never become old. People all over the world are still interested in stories, novels, fiction, in any kind and genre of literature. Modern people feel themselves proficient and intelligent if they read. Children and adults still visit book stores and choose the book they wish. But the cheapest way to have a book is to visit libraries. The books are still considered the best presents ever. Today it is much easier to get information especially thanks to Internet, which makes life of millions of users more comfortable. Almost all books are new kept in the web. We do not have to buy or look for the necessary book in a library. We can just find it while searching in the Internet.
The love to literature has evolved and changed. It became less creative but more informative. The preferences changed as well - it is not a secret that poetry is not as popular as prose today as the golden age of poetry has gone. And we can hardly predict whether it is going to come back. Nevertheless a great amount of poets continue to offer their works worldwide. Thousands of Internet pages contain millions of poems. Poems are increasingly used in company names, slogans, advertisements.
Is literature necessary? No doubts, it is. It has appeared long time ago and is a natural necessity for almost everyone. Those who say that literature is not important are surely mistaken. However, there are people who consider watching movies more interesting than reading books, though a film will never render the conflict, discussed in a book, in full measure. The whole process of teaching both children and adults is based on literature. The sources of information are kept in books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, in the web. There is more pleasure in reading a printed book with a nice colored cover rather than a electronic version from a computer display.
